Tom Harper

Tom Harper started his career as a professional actor in 2000, working regularly in film and television whilst based in London for eight years (www.imdb.com Tom Harper II). During this period he became increasingly interested in the issue of peak oil and decided to retrain in ‘Intercultural Therapy’ at Goldsmiths college University of London, mainly for the chance to blend his skill set as an actor with the ability to explore cultural values and narratives that create unsustainable behaviour. On moving to Norwich from London, Tom joined the Transition Norwich core group and started devising art and drama based workshops on environmental sustainability issues for local primary and secondary schools. On being awarded some seed funding from CUE East in 2011, Tom was able to develop the ‘Oil Game’ Workbook which recently won an award in the Norwich Eco Awards 2012. The game itself is now being played all around the world by community groups and educational establishments.  See Case Studies section for a link to the film. Tom and two colleagues set up Community Solutions East Ltd in 2010, a not for profit company that develops and implements projects that aim to help build a more resilient community in the face of challenges like climate change, peak oil and economic recession. We do this through a series of creative and fun workshops and community managed schemes and initiatives. Tom has enjoyed partnering with Zero Carbon Britain to deliver, amongst other projects, the DECC funded ‘Save a tonne’ campaign and looks forward to further ventures of this ilk in the coming years.
